The Oatmeal of Alford is produced at Montgarrie Mill Alford, in the heart of Aberdeenshire in the rich agricultural lands of Northeast Scotland. The Master Miller, Donald MacDonald, mills as his great grandfather did, using the best of Scottish oats which are renowned for their superior quality due to the extra hours of daylight from which Scotland benefits. This very specialized process, perfected by the miller, makes the flavor of this stone-ground oatmeal unique.
The oatmeal has a traditional, crisp, and nutty texture and flavor, which has been perfected by the skilled master milling techniques handed down through the generations of the MacDonald family. These are same cut as Steel Cut Oats and they are called pinheaad oats because they are cut to the size of pin head.
This oatmeal is a warming, delicious and healthful breakfast treat, but also has many uses beyond breakfast. On the package, you'll find recipes for four traditional Scottish dishes. A traditional porridge recipe, an oat coated herring and oatmeal recipe (which translates well to all fresh fish), fresh oatcakes to accompany cheese and Skirlie, a savory stuffing or accompaniment to meats.
The oatmeal can be cooked quickly and easily in an Insta-pot. You 2.5 cups of water for 1 cup of oats. The suggested cooking time is 10 min high pressure and 10 minutes natural release.
